Printing has evolved
Once upon a time there was a place between here and there. Here being you the customer and there being the print shop. That place was called the service bureau.
The service bureau would make sure your files going to press were saved correctly for printing without errors and proper colour balance. The onus now is on software, the designer and the printshop. Adobe PDF’s and direct to plate (no film) has enabled this to happen. The service bureau is gone. However, professional printing is not a “press-the-print-button” procedure. There is still a lot to know. Variable data printing, brand integration and colour management are some. New web designers haven’t had the opportunity to learn the issues that can arise.
We have all heard the Print marketing is dead chant but as a business owner you know how untrue that is. Especially now. There are so many places a press can print where it never could before. We have the experience and ability to design and manage any number of print projects. A few are listed here.
